Thanks to all the Brothers who attended the November meeting at Stub & Herbs. Also, a special note of thanks goes out to the collegiate Brothers from Alpha Epsilon, Nu Tau and the collegiate Brothers who drove down from Winona and St. Cloud to attend!
VOLLEYBALL-BASKETBALL 2010: A sign-up sheet for the Halsey Invitational was left out. There is still plenty of time to sign up if you are interested in forming a basketball or volleyball team. The signup sheet will go around again at the December meeting. If interested on playing for a team, contact TCAC President Mike Montgomery via email or by phone (651)-270-5058. The sooner we know much interest there is, the better.
For those Brothers who would prefer to attend only the tournament on Saturday, Alpha Epsilon is offering a $20 tournament registration fee. Because this option will be available through TCAC only, registration will be conducted at the December 3rd TCAC meetings. This will be your final chance to take advantage of this. Payments will be collected in the form of check. Please make checks out to Delta Sigma Pi.
COMMUNICATION: We discussed using Facebook versus Yahoo Groups for disseminating information. On a national level, Delta Sigma Pi is partnering with Facebook. This may be the principle form of Brother communication in the future, such as event invitations. However, not every one is on Facebook and some don't want to be. In 2010, we may discontinue the use of Yahoo Groups. A final decision has yet to be made. We are making efforts to add Brothers to our Facebook group. If you're on Facebook, please consider joining the TCAC Facebook group. Click here to view the TCAC Facebook page. Of course, the TCAC website will remain an excellent source of information.
TCAC STRUCTURE: Any discussion on changes to TCAC's structure has been tabled until the new year. With holidays fast upon us, now is not the right time to make changes.
On Thursday, December 10th,TCAC will embark on purchasing toys for the Toys For Toys drive. As one of our Brothers has an employee discount, will purchase toys at a local Target store and then drop them off for the kids. We when confirm which Target store, we will will post it here on the website. The time is tentatively set for 7 PM. Last year, we shopped at a Target in Minnetonka, and that is likely where we will go this year. Following the shopping, we will hit a local bar/restaurant for a social night. Stay tuned for more details.
2008 proved to be a tough year for the Toys For Tots organization, both locally and nationally. TCAC has already surpassed our monetary collection from last year and we still have one month to go. For more information on the Toys For Toys national organization, click here. Contact the Webmaster via email if you would like to make a donation to Toys For Tots. During the December meeting, the Webmaster will put out another Radio Show contest drawing. Two winners will be drawn. If you donate just $2, you will get a ticket for the drawing. You will get two tickets for every $5 donated. We appreciate any donation you can make - it's for the kids!
VBBB
2010: The 2010 Halsey Invitational Volleyball-Basketball Tournament will
be held in Minneapolis and hosted by the Alpha Epsilon chapter at the
University of Minnesota. The announcement came at the 2009 Spring LEAD
conference in Des Moines, Iowa. The chapter will host the banquet at the Holiday Inn, while shuttling Brothers to campus
for the volleyball and basketball games. The Radisson Hotel was
considered, but Alpha Epsilon got a better arrangement at the recently
renovated Holiday Inn Metrodome (near Seven Corners).
The tournament will be held over the weekend of January 29-31st, 2010.
For more information about the tournament,
100 standard hotel rooms are reserved at the the hotel for $99 per
night. For more information about the Holiday Inn Metrodome,
REGISTRATION: Registration is underway, and the cost is currently $55. During the first 10 days, over 70 Brothers registered. This will increase to $60 on Tuesday, December 1st. Team registration is also available and is $75 per team. This is not expected to increase. All payments are processed via PayPal, and you do not need a PayPal account to register. To register for Volleyball Basketball, click here.
SATURDAY ONLY REGISTRATION: Alpha Epsilon is also extending an alternative registration option for TCAC. For those Brothers who would will only play in the tournament on Saturday, Alpha Epsilon is offering a $20 tournament registration fee. Because this option will be available for TCAC members only, registration will be conducted at the December 3rd TCAC meeting. Payments will be collected in the form of check. Please make checks out to Delta Sigma Pi. If you cannot attend the meeting and would prefer this option, please contact TCAC President Mike Montgomery via email or by phone (651)-270-5058. No exceptions will be made on the date of the tournament, so take advantage of this now.
HALSEY T-SHIRTS: In addition to registration, you can pre-order one of the official Halsey 2010 T-shirts. T-shirts can be purchased for $15.00 in advance up until Tuesday, December 15th. After the deadline, all T-shirts can be purchased at the Volleyball Basketball event while supplies last. The chapter would appreciate Brothers pre-ordering so they can get a better estimate of how many they need. If you have questions, you can email the Alpha Epsilon chapter by clicking here. To view the official Halsey 2010 T-shirts, click on the thumbnail below.
VIDEO COMPETITION: This year, the traditional chant is being replaced with a video competition. In the past, some chapters threw together a quick chant or simply didn't have time to come up with one. So this year, chapters will send a video of chapter in their hometown. The theme of the video competition is Cribs: DSP style. It will be a chance for all chapters to show off their city/chapter and put their creativeness to use. More details will be announced at a later date.
ONE FINAL COMMENT: One final comment: In 2009, a stricter policy was enforced against Brothers who wanted to enjoy the benefits of the tournament without supporting it financially. While the move was controversial, it was done in fairness to the chapter hosting it and the Brothers who supported the tournament. Please support future Halsey Invitational's by registering. It would be a great shame to lose this tradition. The last two years have seen an alarming decline in attendance. Brothers put time and effort into this event, and chapters do not always break even on it. So the bottom line: if chapters are losing money, no one will want to host it. So please be respectful of the Brothers who work hard to put this on.
SAMPLE VIDEO: Stay tuned for more details and updates on the tournament. We will pass along any news that we receive. If you've never been to a Volleyball Basketball Tournament, click here to view a video sampling some of what you may experience.
Nu Tau
-
FALL PLEDGE CLASS: During the fall semester, 13 prospective brothers were selected to pledge for the Nu Tau chapter. The chapter held their traditional Spaghetti Dinner social on Thursday, October 22nd. Held once per semester, the Spaghetti Dinner is an event where the pledges have an opportunity to meet and eat with the Brothers of Delta Sigma Pi. Initiation is scheduled for Saturday, November 21st, 2009.
ALUMNI HAPPY HOUR: On Friday, November 13th, 2009, the chapter will be hosting a Happy Hour for alumni at the News Room Bar located at 990 Nicollet Mall (at 10th Street). It will likely be held in the Sports Room. The chapter will be hosting it from approximately 4:00 PM until people clear out (Happy Hour ends at 6:30). As usual, plenty of food will be provided, and VPAR Pat Persons will personally buy the first 3 alumni to show up a round (not on Nu Tau chapter of course). If you have any questions, please email Pat Persons.
CHAPTER COLLEGIATE OF THE YEAR: Congratulations to Brother Carl Lymangood on being selected as Nu Tau's Collegiate of the Year (COY). Brother Lymangood has been very active with Delta Sigma Pi on both a local and national level since pledging in the spring of 2008. He has attended LEADs, provincial conference, and served as the delegate for Grand Chapter. Brother Lymangood was also one of nine Brothers nationally who was selected to attend LeaderShape. Only nine scholarships are given out, and a collegian can apply with a one-page application and a one-page essay on how he/she is a leader with integrity. The applicant then needs a letter of recommendation sent to the Central Office. To see the promo video clip for LeaderShape, click here. Brother Lymangood also attended the South Central LEAD in Califorinia!
MENTORSHIP DRIVE: Lastly, there are a number of collegiate Brothers of Delta Sigma Pi who are seeking mentors with alumni of the fraternity. If interested, they would love to meet over lunch and talk about your career. If interested, please contact Pat Persons. He will put you in touch with a young, aspiring Brother.
Theta Tau
-
The Theta Tau chapter had 26 pledges, the largest pledge class in some time! Theta Tau had nine Brothers attending the St. Louis LEAD during the weekend of October 17th. Several Brothers plan to attend the LEAD in Omaha, as well as the local LEAD in Minneapolis.
Cory Stopka was voted Theta Tau's COY. Brother Stopka has been very active in the fraternity since he pledged. He's been to multiple LEAD conferences, including the LEAD in St. Louis this fall. Corey has also attended two Grand Chapters in his tenure, all in addition to a variety of offices held at Theta Tau, including chapter President.
Theta Tau is also working with the American Marketing Association (AMA) on campus, and hope to raise $6,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. And finally, Initiation is on Saturday, December 5th starting at 2 PM. If you have any questions, or need further information, you can email Brother Cory Stopka. Feel free to update your contact information by contacting Brother Stopka.
Alpha Epsilon
-
The big news for Alpha Epsilon is Volleyball Basketball, which is well-covered in the news section of this site. Needless to say, AE is excited to be hosting the 2010 Halsey Invitation. In the other news, AE had a large pledge class of around 15 for the fall semester. Initiation will be held on Saturday, November 21st. All Brothers are welcome to attend. The chapter asks that Brothers arrive by 8 AM that day. If you have any questions or need directions, you can email AE president Emilee Lampman. If you’re an AE alum and would like to stay in touch the chapter, email VPAR Jen Kee. And finally, congratulations to Brother Ruth Torkelson on being named AE's Collegiate of the Year.
Kappa Upsilon
-
Kappa Upsilon had another strong pledge class again this fall, with around 16 pledges. Brother Wyatt Hammell won the Founders’ Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship and Brother Stephanie Cisewski won the Kappa Upsilon Chapter – Ann Marie Janes Memorial Scholarship. Wyatt Hammell was also selected as the Chapter's Collegiate of the Year.
Each year the Leadership Foundation awards over 40 academic scholarships and fellowships, in addition to scholarships awarded to the National, Provincial and Regional Collegians of the Year. All of these financial awards are made possible through endowed funds. Applications are due by June 30 of each year, and are available at www.dspnet.org/scholarship by February 15. Award amounts this year range from approximately $250 to upwards of $3000 per scholarship.
Thanks to Brothers Pat Persons, Cory Stopka, and Jen Kee for contributing the information above.
Delta Sigma Pi has teamed up with social networking giant Facebook in an effort to stay connected with Brothers. Delta Sigma Pi's partnership with Facebook will allow Brothers to connect with one another through its exclusive application. Facebook has exploded in popularity over the last few years, with the largest increase in the 35 and older demographic. Facebook will be a great vehicle for staying in touch with your Brothers and getting the latest information on the world of Delta Sigma Pi. For more details about the upcoming Facebook application, including the benefits of joining Facebook, click here.
The new Facebook application is expected to launch sometime in November. For now, Delta Sigma Pi has a fan page. Established in June of 2009, the page now has over 10,000 Brothers on it. To view Delta Sigma Pi’s current Facebook page, click here.
InCircle was launched in November of 2006 and will close in December of 2009. While InCircle had a good initial momentum, use of the site diminished over the last couple years. The focus of the site segued to a networking tool, complete with links to job listing sites. However, the free LinkedIn site already utilized the networking features on a much broader scale. Delta Sigma Pi has an official LinkedIn page, which is recommended for all Brothers looking to increase their networking options. For more information on other Delta Sigma Pi social and professional networking options, click here to view the article posted here on the TCAC site. If you have any questions about this initiative or have any comments, you can contact Brother Michael Banks at michael@dspnet.org.
TCAC also utilizes a Facebook page to send messages, event invitations, event reminders, and other information about the local Delta Sigma Pi scene. To view the TCAC Facebook page, click here. If you don’t want to set up a Facebook account, but still want to receive messages about TCAC news and events, you can utilize TCAC’s Yahoo Groups page. To sign up, click here.
Prior to the month of October, the TCAC website had been down for an extended period of time. We experienced several problems related to transferring the host and the site domain. Beginning this fall, the Webmaster has exclusive control and access to the site, thus making updates far easier. During the month of October, the site has been receiving regular updates.
As the Webmaster, it is my goal to continue collating and providing the latest news on the world of Delta Sigma Pi, especially as it relates to the North Central Region. I am partnering with the local chapters in an effort to support and publicize their events. Ideally, I'd like this site to be a first stop for Brothers who need information on fraternity events. I have provided extensive links throughout the site so that Brothers don't have to waste time searching for them, a sort of one-stop shop.
I will freely admit I'm no computer science guru, but I do strive to give the TCAC site a sense of character with a largely uniform style and some photos of the Twin Cities landscape taken specifically by me. Hopefully this site will be a great resource to you. Feel free to email me with any information or comments. Thanks for looking! - Mick Peterson, TCAC Webmaster.
The Spring 2010 LEAD Provincial Conference will take place on the weekend of February 12-14 in Lombard, IL (outside of Chicago). The event will be held at Westin Lombard Yorktown Center. The early registration cost is $89 if you register by December 8th, 2009. The cost increases to $105 after that. Hotel reservations must be made by January, 21, 2010 (mention Delta Sigma Pi for a discount). To register or for more information, click here.
TCAC wants to congratulate all the local chapters who won regional and provincial awards at Grand Chapter Congress back in August. Unfortunately, no one in the region won any national awards, but there were some Provincial award winners with Nu Tau making a comeback. Competition was very light for the Regional Awards in the North Central as some applications didn't qualify or in some cases, were not submitted. Chapters are encouraged to work on collating awards material periodically throughout the academic year versus cramming for an application at the last minute. For a complete list of 2008-2009 award winners, click here.
Honor Roll and Honorable Mention levels of operation recognize those chapters that have gone above and beyond the CEI-defined basic expectations for a satisfactorily performing chapter. Eighty percent of the application criteria must be achieved to obtain Honorable Mention status and 90% must be achieved to obtain Honor Roll status. Only one chapter in the nation made the Honor Roll, but eleven chapters received Honorable Mention, up from five last year. Winona State (Kappa Upsilon) was the only chapter in the region to earn Honorable Mention Honor Roll for CEI points. With the new Chapter Management Program, Honor Roll and Honorable Mention have been eliminated.
Last, but certainly not least, Brother Sara Staloch won the big Provincial District Director of the Year award. Brother Staloch, a Theta Tau initiate, was a co-District Director for the Nu Tau chapter. Congratulations to all the chapters and Brothers on their accomplishments! Below is a list of regional and provincial winners:

Of special note, Brother Sara Staloch won the Provincial Award for District Director of the Year. TCAC wishes to thank all the Brothers who have or currently serve as District Directors for Delta Sigma Pi.
In support of Volleyball Basketball 2010, the Alpha Epsilon chapter is looking for sponsorship donations to cover specific costs of the Halsey Volleyball/Basketball Event. One of Alpha Epsilon’s primary goals is to provide affordable admission to the Halsey Event for its fellow Brothers. Their mission for this event is provide Brothers from neighboring chapters an opportunity to meet one another, network, celebrate, and compete in friendly chapter sporting competitions.
The best way for you or your organization to support our fraternity’s cause is through financial means, which the chapter can use to help cover the high costs of each event. In return, the chapter would provide you with multiple means of professional exposure with this elite group of professional business students. We would love to maintain a strong relationship with your organization for support of professional events and service activities in the future.
If you can help in any way, please contact Nick Caretta by email or calling (612) 483-9495 if you have any questions regarding how to support their cause or if you're interested in this sponsorship opportunity! For more information click here.
In an effort to stay connected with Brothers, Delta Sigma Pi has teamed up with several popular social networking sites including YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, and soon, Facebook.
If you have a YouTube account, you can subscribe and enjoy Deltasig videos uploaded by the national fraternity. On request, Delta Sigma Pi can add your Deltasig-related video as a "favorite" on their profile page. Currently, there are five categories of playlists: Chapter Recruitment Videos, Chapter Activities, National Events, Favorites, and Uploads. Also of note, there is a great video chronicling a Century of Brotherhood, complete with old photos and videos. If you don't have a YouTube account, you can sign up for a free account. To view Delta Sigma Pi's YouTube page, click here.
If you're looking to network with Brothers, a good method would be via Delta Sigma Pi's LinkedIn Page. When you register, you can maintain a list of contact details of various connections you seek. You can post your work history, degrees, and write and receive recommendations from other connections. You can also join various groups such as universities, clubs, professional organizations, and workplaces. Basic use of the LinkedIn account is free, but there are premium features that cost money. To sign in to Delta Sigma Pi's LinkedIn page, click here.
Delta Sigma Pi has its own Flickr page. For the uninitiated, Flickr is an online photo management and sharing application. Owned by Yahoo, its primary goal is to help people make photos available to those who matter to them and to enable new ways of organizing pictures. You can join Flickr for free and begin sharing images immediately. Currently, you can view several cool photos of the Central Office renovation. To view Delta Sigma Pi's Flickr page, click here.
Staying current in the era of information exchange, Delta Sigma Pi also has an official Twitter page. According the Twitter site, "Twitter is a free service that lets you keep in touch with people through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?" Once you sign up, you can start tweeting with your Brothers. DSP's Twitter page is a great way to get answers to your fraternity inquiries and get the latest information on the world of Delta Sigma Pi. To visit the official Twitter page, click here.
Thanks to all the Brothers who attended the October meeting at Stub & Herbs. The meeting was used once again to discuss changes within TCAC and to gather feedback on what Brothers would like to see from TCAC. This season, we are striving to better serve our alumni, and we appreciate any feedback you have for us. Also, a special note of thanks goes out to the collegiate Brothers from Alpha Epsilon and the collegiate Brothers who drove down from Winona (Kappa Upsilon) to attend!
At this point, it has been proposed to continue having a business meeting, albeit lighter in content, once per month with Thursdays as the likely date. However, the location may change in the new year. Another proposal is for a once-a-month happy hour, not sponsored by TCAC, but for TCAC and collegiate Brothers alike. We also want to increase the social events including, but not limited to bowling, softball, kickball, dodgeball, tubing at a ski resort, Valley Fair, Mall of America social, casino night, Canterbury Downs, Saints Game, BBQ, the obligatory brewery tour etc. If you have any ideas or suggestions for TCAC, feel free to contact TCAC President Mike Montgomery via email or by phone (651)-270-5058.
TCAC will making chapter visits during the fall semester. Head Chapter Liaison Mitch McNeil visited the Nu Tau chapter (St. Thomas) on Monday, October 12th. Mitch is scheduled to visit Eta Rho (LaCrosse) on Thursday, October 29th and Theta Tau (St. Cloud State) on Sunday, November 8th. He is planning other chapter visits throughout the region in November and early December. If you would like to join Mitch on his chapter visits, you can contact Mitch by email or by calling (651) 380-5244. For more information on Mitch, visit our Brother Business page.
And on a final note, congratulations to Mark and Miranda Boyadjis, alumni of Alpha Epsilon, on their October marriage! Mark and Miranda have been active with TCAC over the years, and we wish them the best on their journey of marriage together!
TCAC has a Brother Business page set up. The goal of this page is to highlight businesses run by local Brothers. This could include your own retail store, financial planning and advising, insurance planning and selling, consulting, or other side business you have. We would be happy to offer some free publicity for you. For more information or to make a submission, check out our Brother Business page by clicking here. We appreciate any and all help you can provide for your Brothers!
The Jobs page has various links to job searching websites. However, if you have a job at your firm you would like to post, you can submit it to the Webmaster. Click here for more information. The networking page was dropped due to lack of interest. For networking, check out our links page and search Delta Sigma Pi's InCircle (soon to be eliminated) or join Delta Sigma Pi's official Linkedin page. The Links page can be found by clicking here.
