ABOUT DELTA SIGMA PI - PURPOSE

Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in universities; to encourage scholarship, social activity and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce, and to further a higher standard of commercial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community.

ABOUT DELTA SIGMA PI - BRIEF HISTORY

Delta Sigma Pi was founded in 1907 at the New York University: School of Commerce, Accounts, and Finance by Harold Valentine Jacobs, Alexander Frank Makay, Alfred Moysello, and Henry Tienken.  Through the years, Delta Sigma Pi has grown to over 250 chapters, with over 190 chapters still active.  Delta Sigma Pi is open to collegiate students majors in Business and/or Economics.  Initially openly only to men, Delta Sigma Pi was opened to women in 1975 during a special mandate by the Board of Directors.  Collegiate and alumni chapters focus on four aspects of business: Finance (fundraising), Professional Activities, Community Service, and Social activities.  Currently, the Central Office of Delta Sigma Pi is currently headquartered in Oxford, Ohio.

ABOUT THE TWIN CITIES ALUMNI CHAPTER

Delta Sigma Pi has approximately 60 franchised alumni chapters.  For over twenty years, the Twin Cities Alumni Chapter has been serving the brothers of the Twin Cities metro area and the surrounding schools. Much like the main purpose on which Delta Sigma Pi was founded, our purpose is to offer Deltasig alumni a chance to continue to foster the study of business, social activity, and to promote a closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce. We offer those brothers who are located in the Twin Cities area a chance to still participate and enjoy the benefits of being a brother, but in a more relaxed, accommodating manner befitting the hectic lives that we, as brothers of commerce, experience.

We offer a variety of activities ranging from social to professional events. We have had events such as attending Saint Paul Saints games, happy hours and snow tubing. Our professional activities have ranged from business tours to guest speakers such as John Puckett, the founder of Caribou Coffee, Jacque Berglund, Founder and CEO of Finnegans Irish Amber, and Kristen Stinar, Emmy Award-winning news reporter from KARE 11. We also have had community service events such as our annual toys for tots drive, and have found ways to give back to the fraternity by offering scholarships for current collegiate brothers for the annual LEAD conferences and Grand Chapter Congress.

Our membership is derived primarily from brothers from the North Central region representing over eight different chapters from Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. We represent a broad spectrum of companies and professions with many networking possibilities. Many of our members also serve various posts with the DSP Central Office ranging from district directors, to our current Regional Director, Brother Jodi Schoh, and our current Provincial Vice President, Brother Amy Briggs.  TCAC won the Most Outstanding Alumni Chapter five times since the award's inception in 1983.

We also act as conduit for the alumni of the region to the collegiate chapters. Often we are asked to pass along events or news that the various chapters wish to promote to the alumni. We help to facilitate this through our Yahoo and Facebook groups, as well as our monthly newsletter. We also help to keep in touch by occasionally visiting with the various chapters in our region. Frequently, we also welcome the company of collegiate members who often visit our meetings.

Whether you are a recent graduate, or an “old school” alum, or just a brother passing through, we encourage you to come check out one of our events. Remember, brotherhood does not end when you graduate. Brotherhood is for life. We are here to help keep it going and have some fun in the process.

Fraternally,
